  • TV3 Beta Testers Needed!

  • We’ve been busy

You may have noticed that our blog posts came to a pause a couple of weeks ago–right as we started lifting the curtain on Tandem Vault 3 (TV3). Well, that’s no coincidence. We have officially launched the TV3 alpha program, and we’re onboarding a select few testers to evaluate and validate our work.

So far, the response has been exactly what we’ve been hoping for: that TV3 easy to understand, highly functional, and extremely flexible. Hip, hip hooray.

We’re going to continue with the “using metadata” blog posts, but at a bit of a slower pace, and like the last post of discoverability, we will often show how we are handling these issues in TV3.

    Want in?

We expect to have a short alpha period, followed by a longer beta that includes a lot more people. We’re building a list of people who have expressed interest and will circle back once we are getting close to beta release. If you’d like to get an early look at the software (and have some influence on what it will do), drop us a line here, and we’ll be back in touch as the time approaches.

  • We Believe That Black Lives Matter

    To Our Readers:

We built our blog as a place to learn about visual language and media, but right now it’s important for us to pause and take note of the historical movement taking place at our doorstep. With offices in Los Angeles and Washington DC, Tandem Vault’s staff members are deeply moved by the protests and demonstrations for Black Lives Matter. We have been horrified by the violence that spurred these protests, and hopeful that much of the country–and the world– has finally been galvanized into action.

Like so many others, we see it is our responsibility to be more than allies standing sympathetically on the sideline. We are individually showing our support for the movement through personal actions and financial contributions to supporting organizations, but we know this is not enough. As a company, we see a couple of opportunities where we can be active participants in positive change:

We are small, but we are poised for growth. When we are ready to make new hires, emphasis will be placed on diversity.

We also believe that our platform can help bring injustice to light. The response to the brutal killing of George Floyd has reached a tipping point–in large part due to the global community witnessing the events unfold on video. We believe that we can play a role in the collection and distribution of documented injustices, and we will make our platform available to organizations fighting for this cause.

If you are a part of such an organization, please drop us a line.

  • Welcome to the blog!

If you’re reading this, you’ve probably seen the announcement that I’ve been named Chief Product Officer for Tandem Vault. I’m thrilled to be working with this product and this team. We’ve been working on the redesign for months, and we’re really pleased with our progress. There’s still a lot of coding to do over the next couple of months, but at least internally, we can see what the new system will be able to offer.

While we’re waiting for the new software to deliver, I want to use this time to provide some context around our product strategy. I’ll be posting several different types of information. Some posts will address seismic changes to communication, like the way visual media is used in the mobile era, or the impact of cloud services on media management. Some posts will be more down-to-earth and practical, like understanding metadata, or tips for better rights management.

The DAM Book 3.0 by Peter KroghMuch of the content I’ll be posting will be adapted from The DAM Book 3.0 which outlines an approach to media management and deployment in a connected world. We’re making the book available free to all Tandem Vault customers so that they will be able to get a better understanding of our product vision and roadmap.

We’re looking forward to the contributions we can make in increased DAM efficiency, better communication, and improved remote workplaces. If you have any questions about what’s written here, please feel free to drop me a line

  • Introducing Our New CPO

Tandem Vault is pleased to announce that Peter Krogh has joined the company as Chief Product Officer, and is co-leading the design of the next generation of our software. Peter comes to us with a rich experience in every facet of media management, including great work in product management, thought leadership, international standards, authorship, and as a creative professional for more than 30 years.

Peter came to us from the client side. While working as the Acting Director of Digital Strategy for History Factory (a creative and archiving agency in Washington DC), Peter was responsible for selecting cloud services for the agency. After an extensive review of the competition, he selected Tandem Vault. And when his tenure was over at History Factory, we asked him to help us with our software redesign. It was a great match, and we are very pleased that he has come aboard full time.

Peter brings a comprehensive approach to media usage, one that integrates the creative process, institutional needs, practical realities, and the increasing role of mobile communications. Our team is using this framework to design the next version of our service. We’re focused on ease of use, collaboration and scalability. We’re building new ways to customize our software to serve a broad range of needs.

Mobile technology has changed the way everyone works, and created a tremendous need to collect and distribute rich media – photos, videos, documents and the associated data. While we continue to be very mindful of the needs of traditional marketing and communications, we believe that a much broader scope of use is needed. And we don’t see solutions in the marketplace that are addressing this need well. But we’re working on it.

We’ve completed the design phase for the next version of Tandem Vault, and we’re in active development. We’ll have something to show this summer. In the meantime, the rich functionality of the current software is available for our existing customers to depend on, and for new customers to try.

We’re excited to move to this new age for Tandem Vault, and look forward to putting it into your hands.
